You should start walking the next day as it is important for you, but keep one thing in mind that you should not walk upstairs or the hills for almost a week after the operation. Even if you are experiencing discomfort or pain, you should get your muscles moving so that you can recover as soon as possible.
You can start walking the next day, it will not be quite comfortable but you should walk for around 10 minutes each days.

After that you can start light exercises and take a break for at least a month in order to start hard core exercises. You should avoid heavy weight lifting for at least a month after the surgery. Even you will have to avoid doing sex for at least a month so that you will not have to face any kind of difficulty. You can continue all these activities after a month of your surgery.
You will have to avoid taking part in any kind of sports, such as, basketball, tennis, baseball, cricket, and you will be able to resume playing all these sports after one and a half month of your surgery. You should take advice from the doctor when you are considering to take part in any kind of sports. Moreover, other sports like hockey, football needs to be avoided for almost two months because of the nature of the sport.
By the week two after your surgery, you can start swimming or water related exercises without weakening or harming your abdominal muscles.
By the fourth week you can start playing golf or badminton and the other light games. By the end of this week you should see your doctor so that he can confirm that all is well with you and you can return to the exercises you were doing prior. You can start lifting weights by the fifth month after your surgery and you can also start jumping rope. You should avoid snatches, jerks, cleans and squats so that you will not reinjure the surgery site.
After two months of your surgery you are now at full recovery, and you can return to heavy weight lifting and whatever you were doing prior. You can sense the feelings of the surgery site and can tell whether it is completely healed or not.
